Muscimol (Wirkstoff von Amanita muscaria/Fliegenpilz) ist ein direkter GABA-A-Agonist — im Gegensatz zu Benzodiazepinen (allosterische Modulatoren) bindet Muscimol direkt an die GABA-Bindungsstelle. Ethanol potenziert GABA-A über eine eigene allosterische Bindungsstelle und blockiert zusätzlich NMDA-Rezeptoren. Die Kombination erzeugt synergistische GABAerge Depression. Die Dosierung von Muscimol aus natürlichen Pilzquellen ist extrem variabel (pilzteilabhängig, saisonabhängig, standortabhängig) — eine sichere Dosisfindung in Kombination mit Alkohol ist nicht möglich.
