PCP blockiert NMDA-Rezeptoren und hemmt die Dopaminwiederaufnahme — beides Mechanismen, die mit Positivsymptomatik (Halluzinationen, Wahn) und Negativsymptomatik assoziiert sind. THC aktiviert CB1-Rezeptoren und kann bei vulnerablen Personen psychotische Symptome auslösen. Die Kombination war in den 1970er-80er Jahren als PCP-laced Cannabis verbreitet und ist mit schweren psychotischen Episoden, extremer Agitation und Gewalttätigkeit assoziiert. Die motorische Beeinträchtigung und Analgesie durch PCP können Selbstverletzungen ohne Schmerzwahrnehmung ermöglichen.
