Datura is a plant genus that contains tropane alkaloid compounds such as atropine, scopolamine, and hyoscyamine. These act as antagonists at muscarinic and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and can induce intense anticholinergic delirium with hallucinations. Due to the narrow therapeutic index and toxic effects, there is a high risk of severe side effects and poisoning. The substance is rarely used in medicine but is known for its toxic and psychoactive effects.
