5-(hydroxymethyl)-3-(3-methylphenyl)-1,3-oxazolidin-2-one
Toloxatone is a reversible selective monoamine oxidase A inhibitor (RIMA) used for the treatment of depression. It increases the concentration of monoamines such as serotonin and norepinephrine in the synaptic cleft by inhibiting their degradation. Due to its reversible action, it has a lower risk of hypertensive crises compared to irreversible MAO inhibitors. The substance is pharmacologically used for mood enhancement but requires caution when taken concurrently with other serotonergic substances.
